Dancing Dreams - Chapter 3

He slipped, plummeted, dropped, and bruised himself over million times during this period of training. Once he was a man of contemporary dancing and he was good at other dance forms too. From Hip hop to salsa, Bollywood to kathak, Jazz to balley he knew them all.

“Do you think I will be able to perform in the competition?” He asked.

“If you will keep practising like this you will surely participate. And remember winning is not important but participating is” she said and he started grinning ear to ear and shook his head yes.

It was easy for him to relearn chest lift, extension, contraction, isolation etc. But it was onerous for him to learn some other terminologies like Grand Jete, Coupe, Releve etc. due to involvement of both legs. Contemporary dance is like a butterfly, easy to see but hard to catch.

"Shraddha I was thinking if we both could dance together, like a couple." his eyes were ensconced on her shining white skin of her face as she held his hand and said "Dude! Is there anything to ask about it?"

It had been forty days of his dance training now and he was relearning everything steadily and slowly. Shraddha entered his bedroom and shouted “Surprise”.

“What” he said without changing expressions of his face.

“I have got participation form for you” she jumped on his bed and passed him the form.

“Wow…” shouted Rohit in amazement. Shraddha took out pen from his satchel and started filling it. She asked him various details which she didn’t know about him and filled it up with her blue ball pen.

“Stop” he interrupted and she looked at him.

“Fill ‘No’ in this” he said pointing at the question person with disability.

“Why” she asked and he replied “I don’t need any sympathy” and they both smiled. She filled the form and pasted his picture and asked him to attest the form.

"Where is your form?" he asked raising both his eyes.

"I have already filled it" she replied.

She submitted the form the same day and ran back to Rohit’s place. Only ten days were left for the competition and she wanted to be there with Rohit every single minute even if their rehearsals were over. He said that he won’t learn other terms. He wanted to practise them over and over again and attain perfection.

They practised each and every step of their dance until their body started aching. Competition was next day and Shraddha wanted him to sleep and take rest. She told him he should reserve some energy for tomorrow and she removed the artificial limb from his right leg and applied ointment on the bruised and itching area. He slept whole night long after so many days.
