'Ah-ray baster, wot you mean men? Who bleddy told you dat; your stoo-pid fadder told you dat? Ah-ray, we are sons of da bleddy soil. We are da original pee-pils of Bombay.'

Godfrey Joseph Pereira

A couple of months back I received an email from Godfrey Joseph Pereira asking me to review his novel - BLOODLINE BANDRA. And I am really very glad that I didn't refuse it.

THE COVER:
A shabby cottage with pigs and crows idling in the yard. Bloodline Bandra inscribed and embossed in red letters on the top. A giant eagle about to perch on the roof.

PLOT:
The author of the book, takes you on a journey around Pali – a rustic Catholic village lost in the dust of time, a village which has its own taboos, a village where being black-skinned imply that you are the last fish in the basket to be sold. Around the corner you witness Bosco Big Stomach, Salt Peter, and Freddy Fakir taking an outsider to task by yelling at him, ‘Ah-ray baster, wot you mean men? Who bleddy told you dat; your stoo-pid fadder told you dat? Ah-ray, we are sons of da bleddy soil. We are da original pee-pils of Bombay.’

The plot is attractive, unconventional, original and fresh. Author's skill in surgically dissecting, and almost impugn a scalpel instead of a pen, the characters and the narration of the story is presented in a very meticulous way.

VERDICT:
Overall it is a very great story to read but using words like "pee-pils" instead of "people" makes it difficult to read and understand for a reader. I like the story but it took me very long time to complete it because of its language.

STAR REVIEW: 7/10  ★★★★★★★
